Off Duty Rock Star: A Fashion Collaboration

April 25th, 2012

A little bit gritty and a little bit whimsy.

This photo shoot was an excuse to work with two of my favorite people… Angela and Kacie Corbelle. The concept for this was of a beautiful female rock star in her hours “off stage”. I believe I described the vibe in my proposal as “she partied with Tom Waits last night… only pretty”. Raw, edgy, with that distinctive feminine quality that I love so much and try to honor in photographs.

Location was in and around Angela’s apartment in good ol’ Allston Rock City. I think it worked perfectly. :)

“Live out where the real winds blow—to sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whiskey, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested . . . Res ipsa loquitur. Let the good times roll.” ― Hunter S. Thompson

Sarah + Mike: Prelude to “Game Day” Engagement Session

April 17th, 2012

With a truck full of props in tow, we took over Forges Field in Plymouth and played. :)

I’m such a big fan of when couples integrate their personalities and hobbies into their Engagement session! Think of it this way… no two couples are alike. So why should your E Sesh be the same cookie cutter thing as every one else? Exactly! :)

When we rolled up to Forges Field, it was PACKED. First super nice day all year and there were little ones everywhere! Luckily they were mostly confined to the playground and baseball field so we could frolic in the football field and wouldn’t get in anyone’s way!

Sarah and Mike are so cute. And they met his last day of college. Hello, fate… They have been together for years (even longer than my Mike and I!) and are making it “official” in June. You can tell they have one of those loves that will last a lifetime. The give and take to make each other happy. Mike was willing to cuddle on a blanket and at the end of the shoot, Sarah allowed him to apply eye black to her and she donned a vintage helmet to make him happy. Compromise, baby.  :)

I don’t know how I luck out with the coolest, most fun and adorable couples in the Greater New England area but… I do. Another session under the belt that I love even more than the last one. Thanks to Sarah and Mike for having fun with me and keeping it PG under the bleachers. You guys rock big time. :)

Baby A: Enchanted Forest Session

April 12th, 2012

Inspired by vintage, the woods and the enchanting smiles of a baby girl.

Armed with bunches of flowers, a million adorable outfits (her Mom has STYLE for days) and one of the cutest little ladies I know, the three of us set out into the woods for a natural, vintage inspired photo session.

I cannot believe we’re approaching Ambrey’s 1st birthday. It seems like just yesterday she was a teeny tiny newborn sleeping through my moving and posing her during our first photo session! Time flies. Take lots of pictures!!

It was hard to narrow down but here are my favorites from our session:

Isn’t she ridiculously darling?? I love love LOVE my job. :)

My Santa Fe Sanctuary: Part One

April 9th, 2012

First post in a series documenting my soul soothing trip to New Mexico

As the tiny plane landed at the even tinier Santa Fe airport, I couldn’t peel my eyes away from the window. The landscape was white hot sand with tough looking greenery sprinkled throughout. A tumble weed sauntered by lazily and I’m pretty sure it whispered “Welcome to New Mexico, Shann. It’s certainly been awhile”. It was at this moment that I had an inexplicable feeling I would leave this trip changed somehow… I just wasn’t sure how.

In a way, this was a homecoming. Even though I hadn’t lived there since I was 7 years old… that land is imprinted on my soul. The kid in me was delighted to be back to the Southwest that I had loved dearly. The adult in me was thrilled to see an old friend who moved from Boston a couple years ago.

Pia is one of those people that, once you know, you’re never the same again. When I sent her that first email complimenting her photography and asking if she had any advice for a single Mom just starting out, I had no idea the role she would play in my life. She instantly welcomed me and took me under her wing. She is my mentor, good friend and the badass big sister I never had. Yeah, she even introduced me to my amazing boyfriend. I love her.

Spending a week at her “art installation” of a home was exactly what my soul needed after surviving another New England winter. Around every corner was a vignette, a gorgeous framed photograph or a piece of Boston history. Getting sick for a couple days allowed me time to just soak it in and I photographed what inspired me.

Here are some of those images..

As I settle back in to my life up here in Massachusetts, I realize I did come back changed. I’ve matured a little. My confidence has grown through her feedback and nurturing spirit. I’m happier and ready to embrace the year and crazy wedding season schedule to come. My soul has been refreshed and inspired. I’m a little more in love with life and I want to share this with the world.

“Land of Enchantment”, indeed.

Since becoming a wedding photographer a couple years ago, I’ve met many people in the wedding industry. Many amazing and talented people that I feel lucky to know and work beside. Jeni Teran is one of these people. She’s a super talented makeup artist, hair stylist AND agency rep (hello, triple threat)… not to mention one of the sweetest, most down to earth people I’ve ever met in my life. She’s my personality opposite: calm and quiet with a serene presence about her (yeah, I’m hyper and easily excitable… it happens).

I was beyond honored and super EXCITED when she contacted me about shooting her and Manny’s Engagement session. I jumped at the chance! When I met the cable guy who stole her heart, I was blown away by how just… right they are for each other. Full of this sweet, strong love. They laugh together and just exude adoration for each other. And when in the presence of their love bubble, you can’t help but adore them both right back…

Thank you so much for everything Jeni! Your support and friendship means the world to me :)

Meghan + Christopher: A glamorous baseball themed affair at Belle Mer

February 27th, 2012

Baseballs and Glamour – the new PB & J? After this wedding… quite possibly!

Who says girly glam doesn’t mix with a baseball theme? This gorgeous wedding at Belle Mer in Newport  Rhode Island is destined to prove them wrong. A stunning bride, hilarious groom and all the good natured people that surround them… the day couldn’t have been more fabulous.  I especially love the custom bobbleheads of the Groomsmen! Check those out! It was an honor to shoot alongside Nikki Cole Photography (again) – I just adore that woman and love being able to gain more experience while helping out a fellow wedding photographer. Total win/win! Without further adieu… check out the photos!

Baby A: Princess and the Pea…and the Cupcake Smash

February 6th, 2012

A princess amidst a cloud of pillows and colorful textures…

This darling baby cakes is one of my favorite lil’ people to photograph! From silly smiles to calm “deep in thought” gazes… she’s just such a well rounded model! When her Mom contacted me with a “Princess and the Pea” idea for a photoshoot theme, I may or may not have drooled a little. (I’m such a nerd for creative photo sessions.) Add in a cupcake smash for her Bday invites and you have one colorful, fanciful photo session that just stoked pure imagination. I get so spoiled with creative clients that I promised myself to never do traditional (yawn) matching-outfits-with-forced-smiles portrait sessions ever again. And we all lived happily ever after…

Stephanie + Kevin: A New Year’s Eve Wedding with Personality to Spare

January 29th, 2012

Ringing in the New Year with a fabulous couple, a cool antique car and dancing. Lots of dancing.

Oh, man…these guys. Stephanie and Kevin. I could write forever about the two of them. They’re warm, funny and full of that zest that makes you want to be around someone. They dance, laugh and compliment each others personalities so well. They’re the life of the party… of life. It really is fitting that they chose New Year’s Eve to tie the knot and celebrate their love with everyone! I had so much fun with them, I forgot I was working and literally had a blast the whole time. So sit back, relax and toast to the New Year again with one of my fav weddings to date…

Roses from the Groom…

Priceless. Steph’s soon to be sis-in-law sees her for the first time.

Oh, hello, beautiful winter bride. :)

Love her… everyone should be this excited on their wedding day!

After the wedding, we headed to the reception venue to do some portraits in and around the amazing antique car. Classic film, anyone?

Coolest bridesmaids entrance ever. Impromptu dance party and confetti throwing!

Not to be outdone by the ladies… Bowling for Groomsmen!

Pre first dance Dance. :)

I did not start my 2012 diet on this night.

Cue the laser lights, dance music and let’s get this party started!!

These cutie pies below are another Shannon Grant Photography couple. I had to sneak a shot of them!

Happy New Year!!!!

Starting the New Year as husband and wife… doesn’t get more romantic than this.

S + K, thank you SO much for having me as your wedding photographer. Being around you two is so rejuvenating – if you lived nearby, I’d never need coffee. And I’d never stop laughing… even more than I already do. It was such a pleasure being with you on your big day and I wish we could do it all over again on 12/31/12! Seriously though… do you guys have plans? ;)

Thanks to Dawn of Bellaria Designs for having my back as a second shooter! You rock it, girl.

Amanda + Ryan: Island Elegance

January 26th, 2012

A sun kissed wedding in the magical land of Key West!

When I saw an email from Amanda, a former grade school classmate of mine, inquiring about photographing her wedding at the Reach Resort in Key West, FL… I was beyond excited. I mean, high pitched “EEEEE” while doing a little shimmy in my office chair excited. For me every wedding is special but this goes down in the books as my first destination wedding! Enough about me… let’s talk about Amanda and Ryan and their day, shall we? The day began warm, breezy and as beautiful as a day in paradise can be.

Amanda’s Vera Wang gown was all ruffles and looks like a cloud…  so romantic!

She stepped onto the deck for a quick portrait and the breeze gently lifted her curls. Favorites.

These glasses! During their Engagement session in NYC, Ryan kept sneaking these out of his pocket and going GQ on us. They would have been the bane of my existence but, truth be told, he looks like a pretty big deal in them… the glasses can stay.  :)

*First Look alert*

See how Ryan’s looking at his lady? That look, right there is why I love doing “First Looks” with my clients. More time to be in the moment. *sigh*

While I was photographing A + R, Suz grabbed this super cute shot of a blue heart on the rusty truck. Perfectly matches the “Tiffany Blue” color scheme of the wedding. Coincidence? Yes. A totally great one.

Amanda, please (oh please!), have this next one printed large on canvas and displayed in your home. So much gorgeousness.

LOVE.

Seriously with those eyes??? Not to brag but… my brides are some of the most beautiful inside AND out.

This rooster wanted a piece of the action.

OBSESSED…

Such a proud Momma…

They sealed the deal right as the sun was setting…

Now on to the party!! :)

Manda’s Dad’s face kills me. It really does. The love these two families have combined is out of this world.

I LOVE a good dance party reception… and this suave little man kickstarted it big time! Here’s to dancing with reckless abandon!!

Break dancing will never go out of style.

Also, I caught my first WORM! Can you please check out the air this guy gets… it’s gotta be some kind of record.

Late night munchies… burgers and fries!

Amanda and Ryan, love you guys… I cannot thank you enough for having me as your wedding photographer and friend. You’re both gorgeous people with uplifting personalities that have the world at your fingertips! I can’t wait to come visit you – dust off that spare bed! :)   To the Ugarte and Dupuy families, you guys are the sweetest, most down to earth people… but I’m sure you already know that! Thank you for welcoming me into your lives with open arms… I’m a better person because of it.

Shout out to Suz from Suzannah March Photography for meeting me in Miami and being my right hand man for the weekend! You were not only a killer second shooter but a great travel companion and I adore you bunches!
