If you’re anything like me, strippers and penis pops are not on your agenda when planning ideas for your bachelorette. You want your best girls/guys around you, making memories, and having a blast doing things you love.

So what if what you love is going camping but you have a friend or two that need a little convincing? How about roughing it (barely) at a “glampsite” in beautiful Maine?

Kate Murtaugh Events and I took this idea and ran with it at Tops’l Farm in Waldeboro ME. Think: cocktails that include local blueberries, s’mores, and swimming at a local watering hole. Basically what I’d like every Summer weekend to look like. 🙂

Keryn + John | Ocean Edge Resort Wedding http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/keryn-john-ocean-edge-resort-wedding/ Wed, 16 Aug 2017 22:41:17 +0000 http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/?p=11177

These two are a lot like the weather today. They are the refreshing cool breeze on a hot, Summer day. Keryn is one of the most down-to-earth people I’ve ever met and her full-body laugh is guaranteed to make you smile. John absolutely adores her and it’s written all over his face when he looks at her. She makes him laugh like nobody else can and they’ve been going strong since high school 10+ years ago.

Their engagement session was on a crazy windy day at Duxbury Beach (check it out here if you haven’t seen it!). When they arrived, their handsome pup Brody hopped out of the car and promptly peed all up on my rolling camera bag. We all died laughing and agreed on who was the *real* star of the show! It was kind of the perfect ice breaker and I could tell by how they handled that lil’ snafu, they would be a dream to work with. And I was right. 🙂

The wedding day was hot and Summery and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Beginning the day @ Ocean Edge Spa with the girls was such a treat. There was more than plenty time for them to get ready. The Top Hits of the 90s was keeping us all very amused. Then “Hit Me Baby One More Time” came on and her bridesmaids reenacted the classic Britney dance, bared midriffs and all. Yup, this day was a fun day.

When it came time for the ceremony, we headed down to the beach to prep. There was a beautiful custom made arbor with draped fabric and florals set up to frame the couple. Directly behind that was a small grassy patch of land, and further down, the lovely Atlantic. The mood was festive, relaxed, and 100% Cape Cod. Once the officiant took the mic, he set the tone for a joyful, belly laughter filled wedding.

The reception was absolutely breathtaking and decorated to a T with lush arrangements and unique fabric textures in dusty rose, lilac, and gold. Visually it was stunning and such a perfect background for the belly laughs, lighthearted toast teasing, and sweet parent dances that took place. The day couldn’t have been more perfect for these two that deserve the absolute best.

Keryn and John, thank you for having me along for the wild ride! Here are some of my favs from your day:

Amy + Peter | Boston Public Library Wedding http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/amy-peter-boston-public-library-wedding/ Fri, 11 Aug 2017 13:51:30 +0000 http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/?p=11072

Amy and Peter’s origin story may just be one of my favorites. It was her Bday and her fun loving friends convinced her to celebrate in Vegas. Meanwhile, in LA, his friend arrived to visit and was all: VEGAS! Thankfully what happens in Vegas, this time, didn’t stay there!

Their connection was instantaneous. They chatted over cocktails for hours and ended up missing their flights. *sigh* When you know you know, folks. From there, they continued to fall in love from different geographical areas and eventually realized that this long distance thing was for the birds. 🙂

Their wedding day vision was so indicative of their personalities and how they carry themselves. It resonated a sort of “non-fussy elegance”. Like they’re the coolest people in the room and somehow make it effortless. Their color palette was black and white and minimalist all over which 100% complemented their intimate wedding at Boston Public Library. Keeping the decor simple really let the venue, couple, and emotions of the day shine like the stars they are.

The day started at the insanely decadent Fairmont Copley where Amy and her ladies prepared for the day. The mood was upbeat in a calm way. Mom munched on a colorful plate of fruits and veggies while getting her hair done. A bridesmaid crouched on the floor steaming wrinkles out of Amy’s dress. Bridesmaids opened their gifts of fans and heartfelt notes. Southern accents filled the air which is one of my favorite things ever. And once Amy was in her dress, Mom gave her a family heirloom that had us ALL in tears.

Another standout moment from this wedding happened during the Ceremony. Amy was a vision as she slowly made her way down one of the courtyard aisles and then paused. Peter (all smiles) walked over to meet her and they continued the walk, together, arm-in-arm. I know it’s a word that’s overused these days but seriously *SWOON*. As they reached the ceremony, the fountain went silent, and we all hung on every. single. word. They stuck letters to each other in a box with a bottle of wine, to be opened and enjoyed on a later anniversary. When it was time for their first married kiss, the fountain sprang back to life, and everyone cheered. Magic.

The reception was held in the Courtyard Restaurant at BPL which was the perfect space for this small but mighty group of people. Heartfelt speeches, lively conversations, and the most delicious food made the reception extraordinary. The gracious, happy couple made a point to greet every person there and thank them for coming. I have no doubt that the people lucky enough to be in their lives left their wedding feeling loved, appreciated, and with new treasured memories of witnessing two amazing souls join together in marriage. That’s what it’s all about. 🙂

Congratulations, Amy and Peter, and thank you so much for choosing SGP! Here are some of my favorites from your beautiful day!

This couple. They’ve had to change their date, their photographer (yay for me!), AND their venue for the wedding with only a couple months left to go. Planning a wedding can be super stressful so I can only imagine what it’s like when everything seems to be working against you.

Going into this session, I wondered if that stress would carry over. Would they be able to relax and feel comfortable with me? Could I make this piece of wedding prep FUN for them? It’s important to me that my clients have a blast when working with me so I felt this a little extra before this session.

Well. Let’s just say, they nailed it. We ran around with their impossibly cute dogs, snuck into flower beds (carefully! I swear!), and legit laughed the entire time.

I think these two are gonna be juuuuuust fine. 😉

Jen + Dana | Boston MIT Wedding http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/jen-and-dana-boston-mit-wedding/ Thu, 20 Jul 2017 16:28:16 +0000 http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/?p=10760

The day started off warm with a slight breeze, sun shining, and no Boston traffic to be seen. Yup, this was a good day.

I was there as Dana’s old fluffy pup, Bernie, watched over him as he tied his bow tie. He sweetly followed him as Dana buttoned his custom made royal blue and black suit from Alabaster and Chess.  He seemed to approve but did note that his tux was way easier to put on. 🙂

Jen was surrounded by a fun-loving group of ladies as she prepped for the day. Mom whipped out a photo album filled with 4×6’s from their engagement session a couple weeks prior and my heart exploded a little bit. I like those Moms. It was also fun to witness this down-to-earth bride accept help with her shoes, veil, and jewelry. Not used to being the center of attention but accepting it with her quick smiles and easy laughter. Once she zipped up her Amy Kuschel dress (from the BEST: Flair) that fit like a glove and mermaid flared like a boss, it was official, home girl was a *bride*.

And just like that, we were off to the Samberg Conference Center at the newly renovated MIT Sophie Chang building. It boasts a stunning wrap around terrace, glass walls (for making fun reflections) and overlooks an unbeatable city skyline. The modern, architectural setting was set off with luscious white florals and ingenius design by Petals Inc that felt subtle and stunningly romantic at the same time. As the Charles River lazily went about it’s Summertime business, we celebrated these two high above the city and it was spectacular.

Jen and Dana opted for a First Look so they could enjoy Cocktail Hour with their guests. Check out my post here if you’re on the fence about this new fav tradition! Allow me to persuade you (if the photos below don’t). Their First Look was private and allowed them to slow down and spend intentional time together during a day that speeds by WAY too fast. Hand-in-hand they strolled around the terrace easily and, as in life, they brought out the absolute best in each other.

From the loving ceremony to the checkered dance floor, this day was full of belly laughter and bear hugs and I’m so grateful that I was there to document it. If this sets the tone for the remaining weddings of 2017, I’ll be a happy photographer indeed. 🙂

Congrats, Jen + Dana!!! I adore you guys. Here are some of my favorites from your beautiful wedding day:

Krystle + Ryan | Martha’s Vineyard Engagement Photos http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/krystle-ryan-marthas-vineyard-engagement-photos/ Tue, 30 May 2017 16:10:31 +0000 http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/?p=10702

What better way to plan an engagement session than to make an adventure out of it? When I approached Krystle + Ryan about the prospect of hopping a ferry to Martha’s Vineyard, I had my fingers crossed so hard that they’d go for it. Luckily for me, they loved the idea and so we started planning our day trip together to the island!

For anyone with low key motion sickness tendencies, rest assured, the ferry was a breeeeeze. I was worried that the rocking motion would make me feel queasy but the boat is so big (+ we had calm waters), so it was smooth sailing there and back. When we first arrived on island, we beelined for the closest restaurant and that just so happened to be the iconic Black Dog Tavern. When Krystle agreed to go halfsies on our sandwiches so we could each have variety, I turned into the heart eyes emoji, pretty sure. Crab cake and Salmon BLT sammies are delicious btw!

Once our bellies were full, we headed to the Edgartown Lighthouse and began our trek around the island! We walked around, hit up the gingerbread houses, had beers at Bad Martha’s Brewery, and met some very interesting Uber drivers in the process. My favorite was the older man who picked us up in a Toyota Tacoma and counted out all the ways that having a truck on the island came in handy. Somehow we planned it perfectly so that we were headed back at sunset and it was simply beautiful! Martha’s Vineyard is such a perfect location for a day date and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to check it out. Next up, Nantucket?

Here are my favorites from this fun-loving jaunt around the island with two good natured, hilarious humans. <3

Ruby on Film | Boston MA Fashion Photographer http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/ruby-on-film-boston-ma-fashion-photographer/ Thu, 11 May 2017 18:09:05 +0000 http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/?p=10603

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve photographed a whole session entirely on film so I invited Ruby over to change that! You may remember her from this fabulous shoot at Willowdale Estate that is one of my top 10 of all time. She brought her own clothes and amazing head of hair and we shot using my white wall and natural window light. I had a couple accessories on hand that we used for texture purposes (hello, neon scarf!) but overall we kept it pretty simple. It was great to flow through the shoot with a film camera as it truly makes you slow down and click the shutter with more intention. What resulted was a lovely set of natural images of one of my favorite up-and-coming Boston models!

Yaa and the Blossoms | Boston Fine Art Wedding Photographer http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/yaa-and-the-blossoms-boston-fine-art-wedding-photographer/ http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/yaa-and-the-blossoms-boston-fine-art-wedding-photographer/#comments Fri, 05 May 2017 17:14:15 +0000 http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/?p=10646

Spring time is the most magical time of the year in New England. Our cold, gray hearts warm and thaw alongside Mother Nature’s and all feels right with the world again. As the colors start to announce the changing seasons, yellow then white then pink, everyday we feel more alive and view the world with just a little more wonderment.

My personal favorite sign of the times is the cherry blossom tree. Not only is it the fluffiest, softest shade of pink but it reminds me of the festivals in Japan from my childhood days. Sweet nostalgia mixed with that yummy cotton candy aesthetic and my tomboy soul is instantly adorned with frilly lace and doing twirls until it drops.

But! Alas! They bloom for, what, like 2 weeks? If that? One strong Nor’easter and it’s buh-bye fancy dream tree and hello soggy pink carpet. Every year I mentally plan to photograph these unicorns and it never comes to pass. Life, it waits for no man, am i right?

After a quick Bday trip to NYC with my boys, I came home inspired by Central Park in the first throes of Springtime and just knew this was the year it had to happen! So I contacted some of my favorite people (see team below) and we pulled together my new favorite editorial to grace this website. Dreamy, romantic, unique. Not my tagline anymore but always there in spirit. Enjoy!

Keryn + John Engagement | Cape Cod Wedding Photographer http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/keryn-john-engagement-cape-cod-wedding-photographer/ Mon, 01 May 2017 15:21:30 +0000 http://shannongrantweddingsblog.com/?p=10573

It was an unreasonably windy day when we arrived at Duxbury Beach for Keryn and John’s engagement session. Sand whipped around in mini-tornados at my feet as I tried to reassure them (and myself) that a little wind never hurt anyone. In actuality, I ADORE wind in photos because it adds movement and life to an otherwise still image. Thank God these two believed me and just rolled with it!

They also brought along their adorable dog Brodie who hopped in for a couple family photos. Don’t let his small stature fool you, he’s super strong and can rock a bow tie like nobody’s business!

After having this much fun, I simply cannot wait to photograph Keryn and John’s wedding this summer on Cape with Mollie Marrocco Events! It’s bound to be gorgeous and if this session is any indication, definitely super fun!
